Free Festival Brings the Magic of Shakespeare to Life

‘Twelfth Night’ Delivers Comedy, Romance, and Adventure

Join Harris County Precinct 4 and the Bard himself for a day of food, fun, games, and live Shakespeare theater on Saturday, April 9, at Spring Creek Park,15012 Brown Road in Tomball.

The event includes a festival from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and performances of William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Those who cannot attend the festival can instead take in a performance of Twelfth Night on Friday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m. or Sunday, April 10, at 2 p.m. at Spring Creek Park. Performances continue later in the month, with shows on Friday, April 22, at 7:30 p.m. at the Steve Radack Community Center and Friday, April 29, at 7:30 p.m. at the Tracy Gee Community Center.

Filled with romance, comedy, and action, Twelfth Night enchants as twins Viola and Sebastian deal with the aftermath of a devastating shipwreck. Alone in a strange land, Viola disguises herself as a man to secure a position in the household of Duke Orsino. The plot thickens when Viola finds herself fending off the affections of the beautiful Lady Olivia. When Sebastian arrives in town, chaos and comedy ensue, leading to hijinks and a double dose of mistaken identity

“My team works hard to make Shakespeare relatable and accessible to the public,” said Commissioner R. Jack Cagle. “Those who struggled with Shakespeare’s work in the past walk away with new understanding after seeing one of our productions.”

Returning to the festival this year is comedian and entertainer Jim Mackenzie, who specializes in juggling, sword swallowing, whip cracking, rope and pole walking, unicycling, music looping, straight jacket escape, and more.

Shakespeare-era attire is encouraged. Attendees are invited to bring their own refreshments or purchase items from food trucks during the festival.

Established in 2013, Precinct 4’s Shakespeare in the Shade presentations are part of Commissioner Cagle’s educational and recreational commitment to Harris County residents.
