Working to Make Abortion Unnecessary

At a time when the nation is divided over when life begins, The Source seeks to provide the types of services women need to make the decision to carry their babies to full-term. Now, three branches have come together to strengthen their offerings.

The Source Texas, Source Austin, and Source Houston have merged into one nonprofit organization called “The Source, and they have one driving objective: to make abortion unnecessary in Texas by building the highest-quality, most innovative women’s health clinics in Texas.

With 77 years of combined experience serving women, these organizations came together two years ago to launch an innovative partnership, agreeing to share branding, expand clinical practices, and more. The organizations began offering holistic, life-affirming women’s health and pregnancy services including mammograms, cancer screening, wellwoman exams, STI testing, ultrasounds, pregnancy testing, professional counseling, and more.

This merged organizational structure will enable existing and future Source clinics to serve more women and to multiply its impact across the state.

“Our unique focus on providing high quality, whole-woman care and our bold plan to build a statewide network of clinics are truly what sets us apart and positions us for success,” says Mary Whitehurst, Executive Director of Services for The Source.

The merger positions The Source to provide more Texas women with a quality health care experience that isn’t just life-affirming, but also cares for parents after a baby is born, particularly new parents in difficult life circumstances. By leveraging its collective knowledge, resources, and expertise, the organization is primed to grow quickly and responsibly, while continuing to offer sustainable women’s health services, including free or low-cost medical care for pregnant women, material assistance, counseling, and more.

“When it comes to transforming how we care for women in crisis and their unborn babies, The Source has the potential to make a great impact, and I am excited to be involved,” says Dr. Ingrid Skop, OBGYN and board member of The Source.

With the merger, The Source boasts:

  • One strategy, one vision, one mission, and a unified anchor of shared faith
  • One board of directors, one budget, and a single, nimble organizational structure
  • The ability to serve thousands of women across three current physical clinics, one mobile clinic, and a new statewide virtual clinic launching in the near future
  • A clear vision and plan for growing to exceed the clinical footprint of the abortion industry in Texas

“It’s truly a beautiful thing to see the leaders and teams from three organizations come together to join arms around a bold new vision. We are stronger together, and our mission to serve more women will be better achieved as a unified force,” says Terry Hart, Source board chair.

The organization is committed to becoming the trusted, reliable, go-to resource for women across the state by growing in name recognition, range of services offered, and excellence in care. This plan includes increasing the number of Source clinics, enhancing the services available to women, and the launch of its virtual clinic.

In addition to women’s healthcare, The Source offers non-medical services including counseling and mental health resources, education on health and relationships, and material assistance and parenting classes for new families.
