Many of you read my letter from the publisher back in June, and our follow up letter in August, explaining our dilemma and need for financial support to help save Katy Christian Magazine.
I don’t believe that there has been an industry hit harder by this pandemic than media, particularly print media. By some accounts, over 75% of all magazines and newspapers across our nation have gone out of business or switched to digital only. Many people are unaware that most small to mid-sized cities do not even have a single local newspaper anymore.
Katy and Fort Bend Christian Magazines have survived many bad economies and hurricanes over the years, but nothing has wrecked our economy to this magnitude. When the economy has a downturn, the first-place people look to save money is in their advertising budgets, and once the economy turns around, it is the last thing that they re-introduce.
We are the only Christian magazine of its kind in the greater Houston area, with a unique mission to promote Christian-Judeo values, and to report on local issues without bias. I believe there is a fundamental need for not only us to survive, but Christian media as a whole.
We have faithfully served our community for over 15 years. For the past decade and a half, we have strived to provide our readers with Faith-friendly and fair news, in an age of biased and twisted reporting. We tell the stories that many are afraid to share. If you have benefited from our work, please consider supporting our cause.
This never-ending shutdown has all but destroyed our advertising base, and I see no path moving forward except to reach out to our community for help. We know that everybody is struggling right now. If you are able to make even the smallest of donations, it would be greatly appreciated. If not, sharing our campaign would mean the world to us as well.
If we can make it until February 2021, I can see a light at the end of the tunnel. If not, it is in God’s hands.
If you would like to support our ministry, you can do so in one of two ways. If you are a business and would like to advertise with a banner or business directory listing, you can download our media kit at katychristianmagazine.com/advertise/.
If you would like to make a donation of any kind, we have set up a Go Fund Me page at www.gofundme.com/f/save-katy-christian-magazine.
I have been resistant to do this for some time, but two Christian friends of mine both told me that my hesitance was pride. I believe they are probably right. I have always been extremely self-reliant, unwilling to ask for help when needed. I feel ashamed to participate in what I view as begging.
Yet sometimes things are out of our control. This is one of those trials during which no matter what we do, it seems like we take two steps forward, and three steps back. If you are able to help us survive this crisis, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
