Reverse Type 2 Diabetes Naturally
I have been struggling with type 2 diabetes. I am overweight and I am trying to eat healthier. Is there a way to get rid of type 2 diabetes naturally? Are there any supplements that can help control my blood sugar? What else can I do? – Tricia K.
This is a great question, Tricia. Type 2 Diabetes is very common today. More than 34 million Americans have diabetes (about 1 in 10), and approximately 90-95% of them have Type 2 Diabetes. (1) Did you know that Type 2 Diabetes can be prevented and reversed naturally?
Insulin, the hormone that allows glucose to enter the cells, regulates the level of sugar in the bloodstream. Insulin is a hormone that allows your body to use the glucose from food to produce energy. It is produced in the pancreas and released into the bloodstream whenever blood sugar levels rise.
The underlying problem with Type 2 Diabetes is not a lack of insulin, but rather insulin resistance. The pancreas produces plenty of insulin, but the cells are resistant to its signals to let glucose in, so blood sugar remains elevated. Type 1 Diabetes, which affects fewer than 10% of people with diabetes, is different than Type 2 Diabetes because it is caused by destruction of the beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. Type 1 Diabetes requires life-long treatment with insulin injections.
When the body can’t effectively use insulin, glucose (sugar) levels in the blood rise to dangerous levels. This can cause serious health problems if you don’t address it properly, which is why it is important that you address diabetes, because if left untreated, elevated blood sugar can slowly damage your blood vessels, nerves and other tissues and organs, which can lead to all manner of complications.
Many people think that they have to take pharmaceutical drugs such as Glucophage, or Metformin, to manage their Type 2 Diabetes, but that is not so. Glucophage is a drug that has to be detoxified by your liver, and it has negative side effects such as nausea, headache, muscle pain, stomach pain, weakness or vomiting.
The good news is that insulin resistance can be improved, and even reversed, with natural lifestyle changes. Research studies show that by changing your eating habits and exercising regularly, you can prevent and even reverse Type 2 Diabetes. (2)
Lifestyle Changes to Help Reverse Type 2 Diabetes
- Avoid sugar, simple carbs and grains
- Adopt a yeast-free eating program

- Exercise regularly and stay active
- Maintain a healthy body weight
- Limit or eliminate alcohol
Supplements to Help
Be sure to also have your thyroid function checked, as well. Research shows that hypothyroidism can increase your risk of Type 2 Diabetes. Properly treating low thyroid function, along with a healthy eating plan and regular exercise, will help you take control of your Type 2 Diabetes. (3,4)

Healthy Holiday Dessert Recipes
I have been eating much healthier and trying to cut out sugar because I’m overweight. However, I love Christmas and really want to make some delicious desserts – it is such a big part of my family celebration. Are there any sugar-free recipes that actually taste good that I can make? – Marcia L.
This is a great question! First, eating yeast-free, also known as the Candida diet, has so many health benefits such as weight loss, improved gastrointestinal health, more energy, improved mental clarity and memory, improved skin health and it can help reduce your risk of disease.
For those of you that are new to a yeast-free eating program, it involves cutting the sugar and simple carbs out of your eating plan. That means no pizza, pasta, bread, cookies, donuts and so on. Yeast overgrowth in your large intestine can cause many health problems, so the goal is to stop feeding the yeast (yeast feeds on sugar) and to kill the yeast and replace it with good bacteria, or probiotics. My Optimal Eating Program Cookbook is a guide on how to do a yeast-free eating program with food and grocery lists and many delicious yeast-free recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert.
If you want to bring a delicious, yet sugar-free (and guilt-free!) dessert to Christmas dinner, then I have some great yeast-free recipes for you. Your family and friends will love them! I want to share some of our top favorites at the Hotze Health & Wellness Center with you:
