HOUSTON, TX—On Thanksgiving, Veteran Army Medic and Republican Congressional Candidate Tim Stroud along with over 1,000 volunteers helped to feed 8,500 people in the greater Houston Area. Operation Turkey has taken place in Houston for ten years and has grown year over year.
Operation Turkey is operated by volunteers organized by Rotary District 5890 Clubs and sponsored by Goya, ABGi, Exclusive Furniture, Walgreens, the Houston Police Officer’s Union, Around Town Properties, Camp Shield, and others. Site hosts include the Katy Elks Lodge, American Legion Posts 521 and 654, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, and the Warrior’s Refuge.
“It wasn’t just a piece of dry turkey and an ice cream scoop of potatoes. The plate consisted of delicious smoked turkey, potatoes, green beans, corn, a bread roll, and even a slice of pumpkin pie,” said Stroud.
He added, “It speaks to the state we are in our country to where sadly we’re facing an inflation that hurts a lot of people because last year, turkeys were 89 cents a pound; now when we called to see if we could source more turkeys, they’re $1.49 a pound.”
“I have spent my life serving my community and my country, and Operation Turkey highlights the greatness of this country, what can be accomplished when a group of people get together to do something for others,” he concluded.
