An otherwise normal day will suddenly become special when the vivacious Janae Bowens shows up, bringing with her the joy, encouragement, and love of the Lord Jesus Christ.
As one of the most secular cities in the world, Washington, D.C., oozes the arrogant power accumulation of the elite who look at faith as the coin of the uneducated “deplorables.” In particular, the media is guilty of what appears to be deeply and passionately anti-Christian sentiment.
Under the surface though, is a mighty and growing band of professionals, trained in their craft, poised, and working hard to be the best at what they do, while “oozing” the love, joy and freedom of faith in a living Christ.
“I love the media. It allows me to tell stories, in particular those that aren’t told,” said Bowens. “I started my career as a student journalist at Elon University and graduated in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism. I then worked as a producer, reporter, and fill-in anchor for four years in North and South Carolina. I am currently working as a Senior White House Producer at the Black News Channel, where my beat is the White House, but also Capitol Hill,” she continued.
Pausing for prayer with the Capitol Hill Chaplain in the busy Capitol Cafeteria, Bowens thanks God for the opportunities she has. She asks for His special blessing on both her work and personal life and says a special prayer for those around her, in the busy center of the Capitol.
“I want to be the best at what I do, whether in front of the camera or behind it, so that I can be a reflection of my Savior. I also want to be a vehicle to share His love to so many in this city who need Christ, as well as through telling the stories I do.”
Reflecting the nonstop, 24/7 world of media these days, Janae’s phone rings constantly as she directs a program in production, a research team or correspondent, taking a moment to come back to prayer and honoring Christ.
Janae has bigger dreams, though, and prays to one day be back on air with her own production.
“My prayer is that God will use me on network TV to not only be a true professional and show the world that those of us for whom Jesus Christ is the center of our lives are the best at what we do because of that very power. I want to be a daily witness to Christ for the millions we can touch for His Kingdom.”
Finishing up prayer, Janae is off to her next interview and ends with, “Please pray for me, that God will use me, that He will place me where I can best serve Him.”
In a day and age of “me first,” it is refreshing to see that the joy of the Lord makes a woman of God beautiful, creative, and sweet, and to watch as her smile lights up her corner of the cafeteria as all the glory shines from the Savior.
