Your Total Foot Care Specialist is excited to partner with Compassion Katy to host the “Kicks for Kids” Shoe Drive benefitting children within the eighteen Title 1 elementary schools in Katy ISD. New shoes provide many benefits for vulnerable children that include protecting against disease & infection, lowering barriers to school attendance, and demonstrating value and worth. “New shoes can provide the foundation for success in numerous areas of school, whether it be with increased physical activity or self confidence in the classroom.” says Dr. James Jacobs, Medical Director of Your Total Foot Care Specialist. The shoe drive will be held from April 6th through May 7th, 2021.
Community participation in the shoe drive is simple, donors can purchase shoes directly from compassionkaty.org/product-category/shoes-supplies/. “For 2021, we have moved the shoe drive completely virtual. Online donations allow our donors to give more easily and provides us with the ability to deliver the exact footwear that is needed for the Katy ISD students going back to school,” says Cyril Thomas, Administrator of Your Total Foot Care Specialist. The shoes will be delivered to Your Total Foot Care Specialist and distributed to the individual Katy ISD schools for the 2021-2022 school year.
Compassion Katy and Your Total Foot Care’s goal is to aid in ensuring that each Katy ISD student in need has adequate footwear. “We have had many discussions with teachers and counselors about the negative effects associated when children do not have shoes that fit. This anxiety is too often a reality for under-resourced children across the eighteen Title 1 schools in Katy ISD and the need in each of these schools is great and needing at least 100 pairs. Our goal is to provide a shoe closet to each Title 1 school that teachers can use as a resource to help ease the child’s stress by providing them with a new pair of shoes,” says Jennifer Hart, Executive Director of Compassion Katy.
