As a token of appreciation, Attack Poverty recently inducted The Fellowship into The Order of the Trowel.
Attack Poverty is a global organization that serves locally, adopting pockets of poverty and launching “Friends Initiatives.” It is their vision to empower people to attack poverty in their life and their community. Their mission is to strengthen under resourced communities through spiritual growth, education, revitalization, and basic needs.
Partnering with Attack Poverty, The Fellowship has made a long term commitment to adopt the North Fry Road area of Sundown. Friends of Sundown began in December 2013 and implemented various programs intended to walk alongside the community using an asset-based approach. These programs include in school support, community wide events, home repairs, community projects, and You Can Academy, an after school program for Sundown elementary children. In May 2014, Friends of Sundown held the first Sundown Elementary carnival in almost 20 years, and it was a huge success.
In appreciation of the Friends of Sundown initiative, Richard Logan and Brandon Baca of Attack Poverty recently honored The Fellowship for their efforts. The Order of the Trowel was presented to Dr. Jerry Edmonson, lead Pastor at The Fellowship.
