Carmen Turner indicted in major federal public corruption case, source tells KCM

HOUSTON — Fort Bend County Tax Assessor-Collector Carmen Turner has been indicted in connection with a federal public corruption case, a source told Katy Christian Magazine ahead of a scheduled announcement Thursday afternoon, Oct. 22.

A media advisory from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas describes a major public corruption case involving an elected official that spanned two years and included losses to a local government and its taxpayers.

U.S. Attorney Aaron Reitz will join senior leaders from the FBI’s Houston Division and the Texas Department of Public Safety for a news conference at 1:30 p.m. Central time.

The announcement will take place at the U.S. Attorney’s Office on the 23rd floor of Wells Fargo Plaza, 1000 Louisiana St. in downtown Houston. The advisory does not specify the charges or disclose the amount of the losses.

Katy Christian Magazine previously reported on Turner’s 2016 federal indictment during the 2024 election. That indictment charged her with bankruptcy fraud and making false declarations under penalty of perjury.

In that earlier case, prosecutors alleged Turner repeatedly filed bankruptcy petitions to halt foreclosure proceedings, then failed to submit required documents and payment plans, allowing the cases to be dismissed. Prosecutors also alleged she failed to disclose previous bankruptcy filings when submitting new petitions.

This is a developing story. Katy Christian Magazine will update this report later today with details from the federal announcement and additional information as it becomes available.
