Gymnast Aly Raisman to Speak at Fort Bend Women’s Center Annual Luncheon

Former team captain of the U.S. gold medal-winning Women’s Gymnastics Team Aly Raisman is set to speak at the 5th Annual Fort Bend Women’s Center Healing and Hope Luncheon. The event will be held at the Sugar Land Marriott Town Square on Wednesday, May 11, 2022.

Raisman is the third most decorated American gymnast of all-time. She rose to stardom when she became the first American gymnast to win gold in the floor exercise in 2012 and went on to lead the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team to the gold medal in 2016. Raisman is also known for surviving sexual abuse at the hand of a trusted supporter.

Raisman now uses her voice to encourage the conversation surrounding mental health, positive body image and self-care. Her mission is to advocate for systemic changes within the sport of gymnastics and the eradication of sexual abuse. Raisman’s participation in this year’s event supports the Fort Bend Women’s Center as the only domestic violence and sexual assault emergency shelter and crisis hotline in Fort Bend County. The center provides support services such as counseling, advocacy, and case management for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

The organization’s CEO, Vita Goodell, said: “Aly Raisman represents what a champion looks like, not just in the Games, but in the fight against sexual abuse. My hope is that this year’s luncheon will bring encouragement to survivors and show our community of supporters how they can best support victims.”

Last year, the Fort Bend Women’s Center served 1,599 survivors and children in the Greater Houston Area and makes it its mission to provide healing and hope to victims of abuse.

The event’s Presenting Sponsor is Professional Compounding Centers of America (PCCA). Jim Smith, President of PCCA, said, “PCCA believes it’s a tremendous blessing to be in a community with Fort Bend Women’s Center as a resource. For many decades now, we have considered it an honor to provide any support we can to serve this incredible organization and its purposes.

“The Women’s Center’s team of staff and volunteers continue to create opportunities that pull our community together to serve victims needing a refuge, resources, and recovery from violent domestic crime. The Healing and Hope engagements are just one of those great opportunities, and it is with pride that PCCA joins others in our community to sponsor and lift up FBWC in magnifying its compassionate mission.”

Sponsorship packages for Fort Bend Women’s Center’s Healing and Hope Luncheon begin at $2,500 for a table of ten. Individual tickets are also available at $150. For more information on the Healing and Hope luncheon, visit fbwc.org.
