Eleni Mote is quiet and unassuming, but transforms into a charismatic presence when she steps out onto the stage as one of many characters she has played.
She says of herself; “I enjoy playing all kinds of characters. My favorite roles to play are the ones who have attitude or are sometimes considered the ‘bad guys,’ because it gives me an excuse to make a scene and go outside of my own comfort zone.”
At 5’9” in 7th grade, the junior high coaches recruited her for basketball and volleyball. She did play volleyball for three years, but found her passion in the action on the stage rather than the action on the volleyball court after seeing the musical, White Christmas at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. “I immediately fell in love with the magnitude of the show, the musical numbers and the pure talent that each of the actors had on the stage to act, sing and dance at the same time flawlessly. That was when I knew I wanted to be part of something that spectacular and even make it to Broadway one day,” Eleni proclaimed.
Eleni has performed in numerous local and community theatre productions as well. Her favorite show in which she performed was the musical Bye Bye Birdie (casted as Kim MacAfee) presented by the Katy Visual and Performing Arts Center (KVPAC). “Thanks to my director who shared her passion for the show and my fellow dedicated cast members made the show more fun to present,” she said. Last year Eleni was Marilla Cuthbert in the Faith West Academy’s production of Anne of Green Gables as and Winifred Banks in Showtime Theatre’s production of Mary Poppins, The Musical. Other productions Eleni has had starring roles are; Jam Jar Sonnets, Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play, You’re a Good Man-Charlie Brown, Unsinkable, It’s a Wonderful Life, and Under the Bridge.
She continues to study and take private lessons to grow in her craft knowing that auditioning to be in a musical theatre major in college is a highly competitive endeavor. She takes theatre and choir as electives, auditions for every show and musical concert while taking Pre-AP and AP courses as she maintains an “A” average.
Eleni’s strong leadership skills resulted in advocating and helping to form the first chapter of the International Thespian Society at Faith West Academy where she became its first president. She is a member of the National Honor Society, chapel band, and Mu Alpha Theta. At Kingsland Baptist Church she serves in the teen worship team, One Voice, and she serves as a counselor for
Vacation Bible School and Camp West Day Camp. This past summer she served in a mission trip to Nicaragua.
She hopes to major in musical theatre performance at Baylor University.
