Janine Klar

Recently Janine was selected as a 2013-2014 National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) Scholar for academic achievements and her high score on the 2012 PSAT/NMSQT/PAA. Janine was one of about 5300 Hispanic students selected from a pool of over 259,000 who took the PSAT. When asked if she was proud of receiving this award she replied; “I am honored, but what I am proud of is my brother, who has shown remarkable endurance fighting Crohn’s disease.” Advice from this scholar to her underclassmen is to “listen in class and go over your notes (not only before a test) everyday.”
Involvement with school and/or in the community?
Member of the West Houston Venom Softball (pitcher) Team, National Honor Society, International Club (Secy), Class Secretary, and Mu Alpha Theta. Janine is a volunteer at the Katy Library where she shelves books and assists patrons in finding books.
Favorite class or subject: Chemistry/Physics. “I like physics because it is a mixture of math and science.”
What are your ambitions after high school? “I want to attend Texas A&M to become a doctor in medical psychology. I am interested in studying and mental disorders, particularly those (people), that have depression.”
