Back-to-school blessings to you all! What an exciting time of year it is as we usher out summer and phase into fall. You’ll find this issue filled with ideas for your students, from extracurricular activities to Bible trivia to school project ideas. Be sure and check out our Christian business advertisers, who offer back-to-school medical and dental care, clothing and school choice options for every age.

Did you know the “C” in YMCA stands for Christian? Check out the article on our local YMCA, which offers an array of programs geared toward the Christian community.

What a joy it is to feature Danielle Bradbery, The Voice winner with roots in Cypress. This 16-year-old has experienced a whirlwind of acclaim and returned home to a celebration at the Community of Faith Church. Dan Patrick and the Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of commerce honored her, as did local fans. Enjoy the article! We also had fun interviewing Damon Rexroad of FORE!, a golf comedy series that brings to mind “Seinfeld on a golf course!” It’s our first interview with a minister who is also a professional actor.

This issue also brings you pastor, student and business profiles, along with an interview with the wonderful Dr. Lin, who has been honored as Physician of the Year in 2013 by Memorial Hermann Katy. She is truly a Christian practitioner.

We are also excited to welcome Melanie Saxton as our editor. Melanie has written for our magazine for years, and you’ve likely seen her work in many local publications. She is also a book editor and  certified English teacher, and is at the helm locating interesting community stories, including Christian entertainment, artists and authors. One note: We failed to credit the wonderful Debi Beauregard for her photography of American Idol winner Scotty McCreery in our recent issue. Thank you, Debi, and forgive us for the oversight.

Well, it’s on to another school year. We wish the best to all our students as they endeavor to learn and grow. Please pray that our children remain a light in the darkness and are bold ambassadors for Christ. It’s not easy in this day and age, and we hope our magazine in some small way encourages them and their families along their journey.

Joseph Menslage

As the President and Publisher of Katy and Fort Bend Christian Magazines, Joe Menslage is committed to covering social and political news from a Christian worldview. He founded Katy Christian Magazine in 2005, which swept the greater Houston and Katy areas like a storm. That’s when Joe realized the urgent need for publications willing to give voices to the voiceless, without political correctness or censorship. Joe Menslage founded sister-publication Fort Bend Christian Magazine in 2014. Prior to creating Katy Christian Magazine, Joe Menslage led a colorful life. He was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, spent a great deal of his childhood in Colorado, and lived in a couple of other states before he moved to Houston in 1981. Joe was God-gifted with an entrepreneurial mind, and self-started other business ventures before he found his calling. In Joe’s words, our innate talents are given by the Lord, and are meant to be used to serve the Lord. Aside from being a President and Publisher, Joe Menslage is also the co-founder of Katy Christian Chamber of Commerce, where Christians can network, build business connections, listen to passionate speakers, and enjoy monthly breakfasts and lunches. Joe Menslage also hosts a weekly political satire YouTube channel. Joe Menslage has four children. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, watching zombie movies and K dramas, ax-throwing and Krav Maga.
