Bear Creek UMC School has been a leading school in the Bear Creek area for over 25 years. Our philosophy incorporates the understanding that each child has a unique learning style and stage of development; and they learn best through hands on experiences.  This awareness that children learn best through play and discovery, through rich experiences to observe and participate, is known as “The Bear Creek Way”. Our youngest students are 12 months old prior to the first of September and we have classes through kindergarten.  Our hours are 9AM to 1PM or 2PM and there are 2 day, 3 day and 4 day options. Our Transition class meets five days a week for five year olds would benefit from “the gift of an extra year to grow” before entering kindergarten. We offer a family friendly community in a Christian atmosphere that is nurturing for the children as well as the parents. There are many opportunities for parents to be involved in the classroom and with other school families through special events and field trips. For more information visit www.bearcreekumc.org or call 281-463-2969 to schedule a tour. Registration for 2010–2011 classes will be Monday, February 22 at 9:30 AM.

At Children’s Lighthouse we strive to make a difference in you and your child’s life.  Whether it be social, emotional, academic or physical we want to stand out in your eyes.  Our Infant & Toddlers are taught with an Innovation curriculum.  This curriculum will focus on building your child’s large and small motor skills, eye strength by bringing objects farther and closer, and their social and emotional development.  They have fun learning through stories, finger plays, arts and crafts and baby sign language.  As for our older children beginning at the age of two – five we will start teaching with the A Beka curriculum.  The A Beka curriculum is a Christian based curriculum which will have  bible passages throughout its teaching.  It upholds an appropriate level of excellence for each age.  Your child receives their own “school books” and feels accomplished when completing planned activities.  The curriculum contains language development, listening skills, formation of vowels, blending ladders, phonics and reading, simple counting, number recognition, addition and subtraction, poetry, writing, manners, history, science and much more.  Come visit us for our Annual Fall Festival on October 23, 2009 from 6:30pm – 8:30pm.  We hope to see you there.

Welcome to West Oak Private and Grandma’s House where we emphasize a well rounded education focused on both academic excellence and learning through enrichment activities. We offer our educational experience in a secure environment with a low student to teacher ratio and very experienced teachers. Our teachers have on average 5 years of teaching experience. We offer Infant (six-weeks and up) Toddler, Threes, Pre-Kindergarten, Bridge, Kindergarten and 1st Grade.

During these formative years young children learn through exploration, social interactions, observation, play, and discovering both on their own and through teacher lead activities. Enrichment activities including dance/movement, music and Spanish also give children other avenues for self-expression. Our developmentally balanced approach combined with what you as parents teach your child forms a foundation for them to become life long learners. A journey filled with questioning instead of answering.

This has been an outstanding year at Houston Christian High School! HCHS enrolled the highest number of students in its history, and our students were recognized in all areas at the district, state, and even the national level! We are honored that the United States

Military Academy named us a “School of Distinction.” Our beautiful Pampell Family Chapel was completed and dedicated in January. More students received National Merit Scholars recognition than ever before. We have so much to celebrate, and praise God for his continued blessings.

The 2008-2009 school year promises to be a banner year with the continued growth in enrollment and an incoming freshmen class of over 120 students. The newly developed Passport to Lead program will integrate leadership development throughout the curriculum. Nationally acclaimed Fuller Seminary has selected HCHS as its extension campus in Texas and will begin offering evening graduate programs in the fall.

Excellent schools like HCHS become extraordinary through the dedicated service of a gifted faculty, strong leadership from the Board of Trustees, and the voluntary gifts of time, treasure, and talent of parents and friends in our community that share our vision for building an exemplary educational Christian community.

We teach pre-school children about God’s creation through a strong, age-appropriate academic program. Your children develop a foundation for all future learning…in a Christ-centered, loving and safe environment.

Led by the Holy Spirit, we exist, first and foremost, to help children know Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. To this end, we strive to: develop the child’s awareness of self-worth and personal identity as shown in Christ’s death and resurrection; teach children about God’s creation through a strong, age-appropriate academic program and provide a foundation for all future learning in a Christ-centered, loving and safe environment; support and equip the family by providing personal time and training for parents and connecting them to a church home; and be a beacon of light in our community.

Mission Bend Christian Academy

Houston, TX 77082

At  Mission Bend Christian Academy hearing students learn American Sign Language.  Starting with kindergarten, all elementary students attend formal sign language classes once a week.   Even the preschool children benefit from signing through the songs they sing in the classroom and in chapel.  The initial intent of the course was to offer a fun and creative course that had the hidden benefits of learning.  The children love the program and their natural curiosity motivates them to learn more and more.  Initiated as a second language program, the sign language classes have proved to be valuable in strengthening the multiple intelligences of the students.

Learning sentence structure and the nuances of meaning of sign language increases the students verbal-linguistic intelligence.   It assists in improving awareness and skills in grammar and descriptive language.  The students learn syntax and sentence structure.  Whenever a child learns a second language, his native language skills are strengthened and typically also flourish.

As the children become more confident in their signing, they are able to strengthen their intrapersonal intelligence.  Communicating in sign language necessitates the correct facial expressions. The students learn how their body language conveys the varied shades of meaning of words that are being signed.   It is not long before even the beginning students gain self-confidence in standing before people communicating in a new way.
