Fort Bend Christian Academy Athletes Ink National Letters of Intent to Play College Sports

On February 5, Fort Bend Christian Academy (FBCA) celebrated a milestone moment for six of its outstanding student-athletes, each signing National Letters of Intent to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. The excitement was palpable as families, friends, and faculty gathered to honor the dedication and hard work of these athletes, who are set to take their talents to top universities across the country.

Talon Abraham, who has been playing football for five years, will take his skills to McMurry University, an NCAA Division III program. A standout this season at FBCA, Talon earned First Team All-District Honorable Mention and fondly remembers defeating Second Baptist during the regular season as his favorite moment. At McMurry, Talon plans to study business management and marketing, aiming to make an impact both on and off the field.

Next up is Tyler Currie, a four-year letterman and seasoned football player of 13 years, who will play Division I football at the prestigious Air Force Academy. Tyler’s accolades speak for themselves—he has earned multiple honors, including 2024 First Team All-District Defense and Academic All-State. One of his most cherished memories from FBCA is catching the game-winning touchdown against Regents during his sophomore year. Tyler is ready to tackle his next challenge, majoring in engineering at the Air Force Academy.

Ian Harper, an accomplished offensive lineman who has been playing football for seven years, will continue his journey at Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU), an NCAA Division II program. Ian’s impressive resume includes First Team All-District, Second Team All-State, and Academic All-State honors, as well as the FBCA Offensive Lineman Award. A defining moment in his career was pancaking a defensive lineman during the Tomball Christian game. Ian plans to major in cybersecurity at OBU, looking to secure both his academic and athletic future.

Cannon Kampwerth, who’s been playing football for eight years, will bring his talents to Texas Wesleyan University, part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Over the past two seasons, Cannon earned First Team All-District running back, Second Team All-District linebacker, and Academic All-State honors. His favorite memory at FBCA was leading the team to a 5-0 district record after starting the season 1-4. At Texas Wesleyan, he’ll focus on studying business as he continues to excel both on the field and in the classroom.

Nico Lara, a football player for the past nine years, will play for Northwestern Oklahoma State University, an NCAA Division II program in the Great American Conference. Nico’s list of honors is extensive, including First Team All-State and Defensive Player of the Year in his district. His game-winning interception against Second Baptist stands out as one of his proudest moments. At Northwestern Oklahoma State, Nico plans to major in accounting while continuing to shine as a defensive force.

TJ Smith, a six-year football player, will also join Oklahoma Baptist University, following in Ian Harper’s footsteps. A versatile player, TJ earned Second Team All-District honors as both a wide receiver and defensive back. His favorite FBCA memory? Being coached by his father, Coach Tyrone Smith. As he heads to OBU, TJ will major in engineering, ready to take on both the academic and athletic challenges ahead.

Director of Athletics Richard Lazarou expressed the pride the school feels for these athletes, stating, “Signing to play at the collegiate level is a defining moment in the journey of a student-athlete. At FBCA, we take immense pride in celebrating their hard work, dedication, and commitment. We are excited to see all they will accomplish as they take this next step in their academic and athletic careers.”

As these six talented athletes embark on their new collegiate journeys, their FBCA community stands behind them, excited to see what the future holds for each of them both in sports and academics.
