Urgent Alert: How to Stop Carbon Capture Pipelines and Protect Property Rights

Submission by Tom DeWeese, American Policy Center

A new plan has been announced to build a carbon capture pipeline from western Pennsylvania, through Wheeling, West Virginia, and into eastern Ohio.

Carbon capture pipelines, designed to bury CO2 underground, are completely anti-science. Every living thing in nature depends on CO2 to survive, and we are already facing a shortage. These projects are part of a dangerous scheme that promotes the discredited climate change agenda.

The corporations behind this project are keeping the route quiet to avoid early opposition. But that strategy will not succeed. I believe we have a strong plan to stop it before it even begins.

One of the main tools these companies use to push carbon capture pipelines forward is eminent domain. This power allows them to seize private property for their projects. In Iowa and South Dakota, Summit Carbon Solutions used this threat to intimidate farmers into surrendering their land. It got so bad that the governor of South Dakota signed legislation to remove their eminent domain authority.

Now, four Republican members of the Ohio Legislature have introduced two bills (S136 in the Senate and HB170 in the House) to grant eminent domain powers to the company planning this new project.

I believe we can stop this pipeline by defeating those bills in the Ohio Legislature. But I urgently need your help to build strong opposition.

This alert is not just for residents of the affected states. I am reaching out to APC supporters nationwide because stopping this pipeline in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia could prevent similar projects from spreading across the country.

I have written a letter to every member of the Ohio Legislature explaining our opposition. You can read it here: Letter to Ohio Legislature.

If you are an Ohio resident, please contact your state representative and senator to express your opposition. Use the details in my letter to guide your message. Contact information for members of the legislature can be found here:

If you live in Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, or Minnesota, share how similar projects have harmed property owners. For those elsewhere in the nation, your voices matter too—hearing from people across the country will make an impact.

I also urgently need your financial support. We are organizing a media blitz to reach local and national outlets, rally activists, and provide materials for organizing and opposition efforts. This work takes funding that I must raise immediately.

You can contribute here: Donate to APC, or send a check to:

Please act today. The sponsors plan to bring the bills to a vote soon.

Share this message widely and encourage others to sign up for updates at www.americanpolicy.org.

Together, we can stop this effort and defend the property rights of hundreds, perhaps thousands, of landowners. Eminent domain for private projects is nothing less than theft.
