Inside the Small, Individualized Practice of Jon Alworth, Houston-Based Personal Injury Attorney with Christian Principles

In a bustling city like Houston, where legal advertisements flood highways and airwaves, finding a personal injury lawyer who genuinely prioritizes clients over self interest can feel like a challenge.

Enter Jon R. Alworth, a Houston-based attorney whose small firm stands apart by delivering individualized care grounded in Christian principles. With a career spanning nearly four decades and a personal story of transformation, Alworth’s approach to law and life exemplifies dedication, compassion and integrity.

Jon Alworth’s journey to becoming a personal injury lawyer began with an unexpected twist. A graduate of the prestigious University of Texas School of Law in 1984, Alworth initially envisioned a career in corporate litigation. Early roles in politics, including serving as Assistant General Counsel to Texas Governor Bill Clements, seemed to chart a path toward the political and corporate spheres. However, an opportunity to join a personal injury firm shifted his trajectory.

“I always had a heart for the underdog,” Alworth recalls. “I’ve been practicing personal injury law since 1987. It was kind of an unexpected career turn, but it gave me the chance to get into the courtroom quickly and make a real difference in people’s lives.”

Over the years, Alworth has built an impressive resume. He gained invaluable trial experience as part of Texas’s largest worker’s compensation firm, where he quickly ascended to a senior role. Today, as the founder of his own small firm, Alworth combines this extensive legal expertise with a personalized approach. Unlike many large firms where clients interact mostly with paralegals and support staff, Alworth meets with clients personally and provides them with his cell phone number.

“I practice differently. My clients can call or text me directly. I get to know them and understand how their injuries affect their lives. Each client deserves that attention,” he explains.

This philosophy has earned Alworth an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell, a distinction awarded to only the top 5% of attorneys nationwide for their ethical standards and superior legal abilities.

“I’m proud to practice law with Christian principles, treating clients as human beings in difficult circumstances who need help,” he adds.

Beyond his legal practice, Alworth’s life is deeply rooted in faith and service. Ordained as a pastor in 2018, he is the co-founder and lead pastor of Break Every Chain Ministries, which focuses on Christ-centered addiction recovery. He also serves on the board of directors and as head of the spiritual committee for the Open Door Mission, a facility supporting homeless and addicted men.

“I’m in recovery myself, and I’ll celebrate 12 years of sobriety this February,” Alworth shares. “Helping others overcome addiction and rebuild their lives is a blessing, and I give all glory to God.”

Alworth’s ministry extends to the airwaves through his weekly radio show, Recovery Through Christ, aired on 100.7 FM The Word. The live program provides hope and guidance for those struggling with addiction.

“God wants people to restore everyone’s lives, their relationships, and their faith. It’s an honor to be part of that process,” he says.

Alworth’s faith-based approach informs every aspect of his legal practice. “When a family is down and out, and the breadwinner has lost their ability to earn money, helping them is a wonderful feeling,” he explains. “It’s the same feeling I get when I help someone overcome addiction and restore their life.”

Recognizing that many Christians may feel hesitant to pursue legal action, Alworth reassures his clients with wisdom rooted in faith.

“If you’ve been seriously injured in some kind of catastrophic accident that’s not your fault, a lot of Christians have difficulty with pursuing legal action. It’s actually in the Bible in Jesus’s sermon on the mount,” Alworth describes.

“But times were different back then, and insurance companies did not exist. Now, they do, and they are set up to cover those losses. You need to protect your family, and you need competent representation to achieve a just result,” he emphasizes. “Choose carefully and work hand-in-hand with your lawyer. Find someone who practices with Christian principles and won’t treat you as just another case.”

Throughout his career, Alworth has taken on challenging cases, including representing nearly 1,500 individuals affected by an explosion in Brenham, Texas, and securing a $6 million verdict in an 18-wheeler accident case for a woman volunteering in the back of an ambulance. These successes underscore his commitment to fighting for justice on behalf of his clients.

Whether in the courtroom or the community, Jon Alworth brings the same passion and dedication to his work. His personalized approach to law, combined with a life of ministry and service, reflects a character built on integrity and faith. For those in need of legal assistance, Alworth offers more than expertise—he offers genuine care and compassion.
